Most of all I'd like to clarify on thing: screenshots are from the TECH DEMO.
A little "testbed" track, not even full-featured as it's NOT its purpose to be "playable" at this very stage. A style, technology, prototype; a comparison paradigm on how to build the actual game.
I've seen some quality jokes on Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1096649417433588022004-10-01T17:46:00.000+02:002004-10-01T18:50:17.433+02:00The GPU warJust some thoughts on the recent "word-war" played lately by Nvidia and Ati regarding their respective counterpart. As usual, and as it normally happens in business especially at their level, both companies push their product against their direct competitor...publishing benchmarks, breaking published benchmarks (ironic), "leaking" Mature-rated internal presentations..and so on.
Well, we Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1095506050776651602004-09-18T13:48:00.000+02:002004-09-18T13:14:10.776+02:00More on FNTCLately we found out that our compression ratios were computed comparing FNTC24 with uncompressed 24bit textures - which sounds pretty logical. Since modern hardware doesn't support 24bit texture formats, our ratios increase by almost a third.
All uncompressed 24bit textures are "promoted" to 32bit by the card's driver...and take 32bit/pixel in video memory as well, instead of 24bits.
The only Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1095098946940688472004-09-13T19:53:00.000+02:002004-09-13T20:09:06.940+02:00We got shots! :)Now then... ECTS is gone...fair enough. Someone said it was a poor show this year due to other two shows in Europe, one of which in London as well.
So, hopefully next year it will regain its natural strength and attraction.
Anyway...the news here are that we've finalized the look of the tech demo. I must say...I really, really like the result. Not comparing to anything else...just because Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1093144638817109322004-08-22T04:58:00.000+02:002004-08-22T05:17:18.816+02:00Almost still aliveYup, almost! We're actually dying in the process of putting together this demo...but it's worth it. Latest results are more than encouraging..."exciting" would be the right word. Complete buildings are running smoothly and a good per-fragment glow effect is enhancing all the little "lights" on them.
Now it's almost rendering time for me. Menus should be fully online tomorrow and from next Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1091882156188156712004-08-07T14:24:00.000+02:002004-08-07T14:35:56.186+02:00"Just beat it..."As usual, after the first "glowing" results, Max is now convinced that glow is indeed a nice effect we should definitely include in our tech demo. ;)
Currently also screen menus are being developed...with some basic configuration options.
Structures texturing is coming along nicely as well.
As if it wasn't enough, we will also feature a famous, licensed, soundtrack for our demo...but Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1091526782611349572004-08-03T11:48:00.000+02:002004-08-03T11:53:02.613+02:00Glow or not glow?!Oh!
Hi there, I finally got it how this blog works!
Uhm ... my english is not very good so i'll be short.
We are implementing glow effect to our scene trying to obatain the best quality without loosing performance.
Yes, we're working hard to make it ready for the ECTS event, anyway, if Notcom will be there... then you'll see very good quality graphics and fx... and above all amazing speed.
Massimiliano Agostinellihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04615091322676138654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1091463321441326772004-08-02T18:05:00.000+02:002004-08-02T18:15:21.440+02:00Tech Demo 1We've almost done with creating normal maps for our tech demo. The structures around the track are quite huge and detailed...so we're mixing up generated normals - from high-res models - and filtered normal maps using Nvidia's Normal Map filter.
The result is already pleasing talking about details... but there'll be no final word on quality until we see all the graphics running in the engine Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1091413740413144542004-08-02T04:25:00.000+02:002004-08-02T04:29:37.220+02:00Website FixedEureka!
ForwardGames' Website finally works properly with Netscape 7.
We're sorry if you experienced "ugly browsing"...it's no more!
Main menus working fine and background color fixed.
We won't tell you what kind of bug was doing that mess on the site...it's just too weird. :|

We'd like to be there with some Notcom Racing's Tech Demo really. Not sure yet...as we didn't plan ECTS presence at all...we just thought we were close enough. We'll see... ;)
In the meantime, yesterday we finally implemented FNTC tex compression at 5:1 ratio!
This first implementation looks a bit slower that we expected...Emanuele Salvuccihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00923604755535211975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7732771.post-1090670740578278802004-07-24T14:04:00.000+02:002004-07-24T14:05:40.576+02:00Hello WorldThe Notcom Racing's Development Blog has born.
Everyone's invited!
